Aaron Copeland’s El Salon Mexico
The work is a musical depiction of a dance hall in Mexico City and carries the subtitle,
“A Popular Type Dance Hall in Mexico City”. Copeland completed it in 1936 and it premiered in the United States in 1938. Copeland based this piece on at least four Mexican folk songs: “El Palo Verde,” “La Jesusita,” “El Mosco,” and “El Malacate”
